Hello! I am a rising sophomore at Harvard College who cares deeply about helping people reach their full potential. This core mission has manifested itself in numerous ways—through music, education, social justice, and research—and I continue to be filled with wonder as I dive deeper into my existing interests and discover new ones. I did just that during my gap year after graduating high school. Through a data science research project on the Black Lives Matter movement, internships with a COVID-19 risk assessment startup, a nonprofit fighting global poverty, and the Smithsonian’s education office, and a great deal of tutoring and music instruction, I explored how I can fulfill my goals through a variety of media and methods.
I believe in the power of interdisciplinary work. As a young child, I focused only on math and music, but when I traveled to Guatemala to lead sustainability workshops in schools, I began to care about pressing social issues and wondered how I could use my existing skills to address them. I joined a social justice band and learned to send messages of hope and unity through music. I started education initiatives in classical music that showed people of all ages the power of using one’s identity to drive their work. Overall, I sought to combine my unique set of experiences and abilities to make an impact on my community and the world in a way only I could.
I believe that it is insufficient to analyze an issue from only one perspective. Insights from a wide range of disciplines are needed to properly understand how issues affect individuals, communities, and society as a whole. I hope to undertake computational social science work that harnesses both the power of data to reveal broad trends and the power of stories to reveal the hopes and fears of the humans behind each data point.
